SOCIAL IMPACT |
The Magnetic Resonance Imaging, better known as the MRI scan, has greatly benefited society. The medical technology has taken a huge step forward in assisting the diagnosis of diseases thanks to the introduction of the MRI scan. It gives medical professionals an advantage in diagnosing and treating diseases in the earlier stages.
Before the MRI scan was introduced, there was little to no way of detecting cancer in its early stages. Doctors could only diagnose cancer when the symptoms start showing and at this point the cancer may have already progressed to its final stage, thus reducing the chances of survival of the cancer patient. |
With the introduction of the MRI scan, cancer, injuries and other diseases could be detected at its initial stages. For example, in the case of detecting cancer, the MRI scan allows healthy and normal cells to be differentiated from cancer cells, allowing doctors to identify cancerous cells and treat the root of the problem. There are many types of MRI scans that are created to diagnose different type of illnesses such as neuroimaging, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal etc.
Without such the MRI scan, many lives may be lost that could have otherwise been saved. While the advantages are great, as with any test, there are some disadvantages as well. Overall, the advantages greatly outweigh the disadvantages |
